The Associate of Arts in French (AA in French) provides students with a solid foundation of the French language and of the diverse cultures of the French-speaking world. The courses introduce students to the basics of language so that they gain confidence in reading, writing, and conversing in the French language. Courses present students a variety of texts in different formats and genres to reveal the rich history, customs, and cultures of the French-speaking world. The Associate of Arts in French provides students with the necessary coursework to transfer to a four-year university where students will have the opportunity to complete a bachelor's or graduate degree in French. Depending on their entry level of French, the students seeking an A.A. in French can choose to start among the following courses: FRNC 1A, FRNC 1B, or FRNC 2A.

To be awarded an Associate Degree, a student must:
- Achieve a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better in the major requirements.
- Completion of WVC or Cal-GETC General Education patterns. Students whose goal is to obtain a bachelor鈥檚 degree should complete the Cal-GETC General Education pattern.
- Complete additional degree-applicable units to meet the minimum 60-unit Associate Degree requirements.
